Does anyone know where I can find a manual for the JW-03. I didn't receive one with the unit. I'm really only looking for the oil capacity. It's seems to be very prone to oil foaming. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this would occur from either having an air leak into the system, or from the oil level being so low the supply or return connections into the reservoir are exposed to air, right? What ends up happening is, as I'm working the unit, foamed oil comes running out of the breather holes on the reservoir cap.

I just emptied and cleaned the tank and filter, and refilled with new oil. The dipstick has no marking for proper level. And I'm using a Prince PTO pump.

Hi Slingshot, welcome.

I need to ask a few questions.

What type of oil are you using?

How much oil are you putting in the reservoir?

What size are the hoses going to/from the pump?

Is the pump rotating according to the arrows on it?

Prince pumps are so robust and forgiving that it's difficult sometimes to detect if they are in pain.

Forgot to mention that I have a generic PDF copy of the LW series backhoes (same as yours with subtle differences). PM me your email addy and I'll shoot them to you.

The HW03 manual says to fill tank to 4/5:

After
HW03 series backhoe connected with tractor, the following points need attention
before operation:

  1. A.
    Check
tractor and make sure tractor in regular working situation.
  2. B.
    Fill
lubricating oil in every oil site of backhoe.
  3. C.
    Fill
hydraulic oil into four fifths of hydraulic oil tank.

Slingshot,

Fill it so that it is below the pipe that sticks down into the tank.  This is the one that has the filler cap on it.  If you fill it till the oil is into that pipe, the tank can't breathe.

Hi Bob, thanks for the greeting! Although I've been a member for a few years, I just haven't posted since the website was gussied-up. I see that I've lost all the credit for my old posts. It's like having merit badges stripped!

I'm using NAPA general duty hydraulic fluid. The lines are sized to match those the unit came with…they've just been changed to ASE (or whatever?) American. I did pour the whole 5 gallons in, so I'm probably a bit over-filled. And yes indeed, the pump is running the correct direction.

Smalljobs and RonJ….thanks for the help. Ron…that's totally and unambiguously logical, so I'll drain a bit out.

Bob and Smalljobs, I'll send you my email addy and would greatly appreciate you sending me the manuals.

Thanks gents!

At the top left of the page click on "Inbox", then click on "Compose a Message" then put the recipients name/s in the first box. Multiple names separated with a comma. The rest is self explanatory.

I just sent you a message.

I'm now setting up my own self import HW04X frame mounted hoe.  Does anyone know if a NAPA 5 gallon pail will fill the tank properly as well as the cylinders?  I sent the manuals to Slingshot but still have not figured out how much fluid I'll need.

Somehow my LW-6 pdf file got lost. Glad you could send yours.

If I remember correctly it should take around seven gallons to fill the cylinders, pump, and reservoir. Start with five gallons. You want to check the oil with all of the cylinders retracted, and to NOT LESS than 1" below the fill pipe/vent tube.

Bob, Thanks.

I'm happily wrestling with the HW04X subframe to mate to older Jinma 284 and, with lots of great help from Tommy and his staff at Affordable, I should be "good to go soon".  In spite of guarantees from Jinma whose factory I've personally visited, the subframe didn't quite fit.  It's an adventure leading to a positive result soon.

Today I bought the 5 gallons from NAPA but it looks like I'll need another and it won't go to waste.  I'll end up, properly and hopefully, starting a new thread on this one: Mounting a late model frame mount HW04X to an older Jinma 284.
