Jinma 204. Had a coolant leak coming from water pump. After removing radiator and taking fan and pulley off, I discovered leak is coming from a 1/8 weep hole in bottom of water pump. Ordered a new pump and the weep hole and gasket doesn't match up with the old one. Anyone know why my coolant is coming out this hole? Can I just plug the hole? Any hepl is appreciated. Mack

Hi Mack,
The weep (tattletale) hole serves two purposes.
1) It tells you when the seal has failed.
2) I provides an escape for the coolant so it doesn't force it's way into the bearing and ruin it, and possibly take out the radiator, alternator, etc.
What do you mean the weep hole and gasket "don't match up with the old one"? Is the bolt pattern different? Different hub pilot size?

Which engine do you have ? The Yangdong and the Laidong water pump look the same other than a small hole at the top ,the bolt pattern and everything else is the same, where did you get the parts ?
The pump or gasket must be wrong, send me a pic of the pump and the gasket and I can confirm it for you, along with the name of your engine

I have the laidong 385 engine. Got the correct water pump and installed it today. I still have coolant leak coming from the same weep hole. I'm stumped!

If it's the correct pump ,It must be defective.I still would like to see a pic of the new pump,I have just seen too many times the Yangdong pump installed on the Laidong engine and has a leak, both of these pumps have the same bolt patteren and use the same hoses. If you are confident that the pump is correct,it is a defect.

Agreed. However, I would make absolutely sure that coolant isn't trickling down from another source, such as the thermostat housing.
