What size tractor ? Sounds like the Shift Lump has possibly broken, and the spline sleeve backed up into the rear differential gear ? Is your tractor a 254/284 ? If so I can explain to you what will need to be done. We also have the correct manuals for your tractor

Thanks.  I actually don't know the model until I get home tonight. I know it is a 2-something…

          The tractor is a 204.

          Thanks,

          Andy

Same as 254 on final drive,if you are going to try and repair yourself you will need to remove the hydraulic lift box,the part under the seat it' s heavy so have someone help you. Once it's off you should be able to see the problem. We can help walk you thru the repair .We will have all the parts in stock

Gearbox is open. I found the shift lump shaft (lump busted off) and  snapring still in place, a 5x26mm roll pin, and, unfortunately, a tooth from the left-side 69T gear. I did not find the lump itself. I am still trying to figure out why, when I turn the wheels there are several soft-stops in rotation which can be overcome with pressure. Sounds like something is bent…

                  Where do I start?

The 69T gear lost a tooth when the Spline sleeve slide back into it, I would check the Spline sleeve for damage also. You have to remove the Rear housings then you can disassemble and get the gear off, looks like you have a job ahead of you

Thanks. When I slide the spline back, the only gear it contacts is, in my manual, called the spiral bevel gear. My book shows the 69T gears as square cut final drive gears on the axles.

We have found a defect in the 13T gear which is causing the soft-stops in rotation and (most probably) caused the tooth loss from the 69T gear. I am going to proceed to remove the brake and access the 13T gear. Does this make sense, and are there any cautions or recommendations?
                            Thanks, everybody!

PS, maybe I'll find the Stupid lump!

                                    Howdy.

                                    Two Questions (so Far):

                                    1. How does the left claw come off the drive shaft? I don't see any keeper…

                                    2. Can I back off the 52mm nut and draw the shaft and hub off in one piece?

                                    Thanks,

                                    Andy

The Claw is held in place by the Fork 131, the claw slides on the driving shaft that is what locks the differential lock in .There are 2- snap rings and a nut, It has to be disassemblied to be removed

My tractor  is 20614546. My manual is entitled “Parts list with with Ilustrations”.

My broken gears are on the left side facing front, and according to my illustration, are gears 69T and 13T.

There are discrepensies  with what I got and what is in the manual. The PTO (per illustration the “2nd shaft”) shaft, has no gear on the forward end, like the illustration shows, yet has two speed output. The single speed illustration shows a bare spline on the forward end, which I have, but only one output gear set.

I'm lost. I can send pictures I you tell me how.
