        Welcome monkeyman,

        I agree, pictures of what you have taken apart would be greatly appreciated. When you say “balancer” are you referring to the torsional isolator on the front of the crankshaft? And what are you referring to as the “fuel pump assembly – lift pump or fuel injection pump?

        Personally, I have no idea what you're talking about. Pictures please.

          Okay …. here are some pictures.  An example of the fuel injector pump is below.  What I am talking about is the black portion on the left side in the picture.  It appears to be some sort of balancer that is in line with the governor housed on the right side. There is a dual weight assembly that sits around the shaft in the second picture (the same as the assembly on the left of the first picture) and it is two spring loaded weights that when the pump shaft is spinning moves the off center bushings in the third picture, which set in the center of the middle picture.

           

          I need help with setting the orientation of these bushings.  Anyone with an old pump laying around could pop the circle clip off and remove the round plate and assembly and shoot a picture of the off center bushings would help me a ton.

            We have the Complete balancers ? They are held on with a bolt in the center ? I have never taken one apart. Is this on a SL3105 Engine ???

              Tommy,

              It is the SL3105.  My balancer appears to be fine and all I need to know is how the round bushings are oriented.  I just need a simple photo of the balancer top down with the center portion removed (circle clip, round plate, weights).

                Well, what you have there is the timing advance mechanism. It functions much like the centrifugal advance in a distributor on a '60's automotive engine.

                This is why there are diesel shops. Have no idea why you called it a “balancer”.

                  Thanks for the reply.  The term “balancer” came from one of the sponsoring shops of ctoa.net.  A diesel shop would be great but they don't necessarily help when the tractor is stuck on the property 1/3 of a mile from the barn/shop.

                    Did you have a diesel bug problem? Did the engine just quit on you?

                    Just curious why you would be doing this type of work in the field

                    (diesel shops have service trucks).
