The 6 fingered clutch pack upgrade from older 3 fingered style requires replacement of clutch throw out bearing with different bearing and bearing arm/holder.
Has anyone tried this upgraded modification? -

I’m just starting research into this myself. My 2006 284 now has 1100 hours on it and the PTO side is at it’s adjustment limits. The main clutch is still working.
From what I can tell the 284 could have an 8 or a 9 inch clutch. You have to know which size before you can order. I think the 9 inch is the only one that can be upgraded and the only way to know for sure which one you have is to split the tractor. Generally I would want to have the new parts on hand before doing that. I hate waiting for parts. Also the freight for a return would be a killer.
Once I get closer to the job I will call a couple of the dealers and see if they can tell me more than what is listed on the web sites. In any case it is always a good idea to replace the throw out bearing any time you get a chance.
If you find out any more info about this, please post it in a reply.

Piper184;
Thanks for the response;
I did the clutch replacement 8 years ago at 900 hours,(Now at 1700).
It was an 8” but all I replaced was both clutch discs,the Bellville springs,throw out bearing and maybe pressure plate.
So far I do not need a new clutch system but was hoping to beat the 153% Chinese Tariffs that officially go into effect in November 2025. Not one of the parts suppliers will tell me if the prices advertised are tariffed. They will undoubtedly increase after November.
And the 6 finger upgrade supposedly requires a different clutch throw out bearing and lever.
If I can’t beat the tariffs I will hold off until Trump is voted out(Trump is breaking the law as only congress can legally impose tariffs) and hope my 8” holds up. -

just as a thought have you looked around for a company that does brake and clutch relining, I know there was one in chattanogga,tn. a few years ago, cause I used them ,very reasonable. but I do not remember the name , I would assume that a internet search would find several in country.

Mr. Privett;
Not interested in a refurbished clutch plate at this point.
The 6 finger clamping pressure of the upgraded Chinese Clutch system would be superior to the three fingered.
But the import tariff will be passed on to the consumer and at 153% I will be paying double for the same part.
Trumps tariffs will not bring Chinese clutch disc manufacturers into the US.
It is a sales tax burdened on the consumer while the rich enjoy low/no taxes.
FDR taxed the rich at 91%
Reagan and everyone since has taxed them at 32-38%.Attachments:
