Are you referring to the tachometer or the hour meter?

Have you checked the clearance between the reluctor and the flywheel teeth.

on the old posts there was a chat about this,I know mine foton the hour meter does run slower at a idle it seems that above 1500 rpm or so the clock runs ok,I think there was something about maybe the hot voltage being lower at a idle coming up as rpm increases making the clock run faster, but it has been a few years soooo, memory is not what it used to be.

Here's a related problem. The tach on my Jinma 284 has been hanging up at around 1700 rpm. I'll start it and it's working again, look down after awhile and it's stuck again. Any ideas?

The reluctor could be dirty, not getting accurate pulses off the ring gear.

Is the needle touching the glass or back plate?

Also, as usual, check all of the wiring connections.

                That's kinda wierd.

                hmmm

I know this is an old post but the response may help others that are going through old post looking at responses as indeed I am. The tacho sender on our Foton 404 gave out and the plastic covered tip had split and a small wire was protruding, replaced it with a new one from Tommy’s Affordable even though i’m in Australia.
The hour meter appeared to be stuck not turning over so I just bought a small electrical one on line on e-bay dirt cheap from China and attached it. The original now seems to also be going again although I think that there may be a broken tooth that allows it to stall periodically, not good when it is one of the smaller digit wheels.
The electronic version counts in points of the hour too so every 6 minutes registers .1. I also placed one on the ride on lawnmower as it had none, and its surprising how much work is done on that machine!
