          Without seeing  the sending unit up close, I can only speculate. Look real close at the other terminal to see if it is connected to the case. Some units are grounded that way, and some units will have that terminal connected to another gauge or power source.

            On your two post sender, the post that's empty, check with an omh

            meter to ground, if it has continuity, that's good, then check with

            engine running, if it check's open that's great. Now you can install

            a 12v buzzer's ground lead this post, the other buzzer lead to fuze

            box terminal that's hot only with key on. Now you wont forget to

            turn off key! Because oil pressure keeps buzzer off. I have done

            three tractors this way, no more dead batteries leaving the key on.
