You reconditioned it? Was the price reasonable?

                I don't understand either.

Your previous post said “no help i recon…” which I interpreted to mean that “recon” meant “recondition”. What does “recon” mean to you?

OK, stupid me. You meant “reckon”. embarassed

Well I reckon that alternator you referred to probably does not have a tachometer circuit in it. The tach, if it's electronic, is most likely driven by a reluctor that is screwed into the flywheel housing. yell

yes you are right in the translation of my spelling Bob…sorry! Was trying to save some $ with an after market tach. Replaced the reluctor last week. Needle still jumping around like its on meth. Went on and ordered the jinma replacement tach wasn't too bad $145 at circle G. Thanks sir for your help..hailking

Just curious if you have the reluctor adjusted correctly; screw in until it contacts the flywheel ring gear then back out 3/4 turn and lock. This is performed with the engine OFF!

yes sir. screwed in until touched, backed out about half to three quarter turn. The tach thats on it is in bad shape Bob. No glass, faded. Water probally got in the internals before i bought it and caused some damage and corrosion. What is the green line on the tach face about oh about 2200rpm for?hailking

That's where you want to run your PTO implements. However I would never run my post hole auger that fast, I run it as slow as possible for control.

I don't run my tiller at 540 either. Seems unnecessary, and the faster the speed, the more unforgiving rocks are on tines. Cringe at that PING! sound. That gets to run about 1700-1800.

oh ok thanks Bender i kinda thought that but on this little 290 its so close to the red line i wasn't sure. New tach should be in next week and should be good to go. By the way to you and Bob problem with coolant in oil i had last week solved by tighting bolts and replacing bolt that was left out on the covers on the front and back of the head, whod of thunk it. No coolant in oil anymore embarassedlaugh. You guys are terrific. Thank God for you all and CTOAhailking

Fido back when tach was working about 1700-1800 is where i ran my bush hog unless in really high stuff and it seemed about right.Thats why i didn't understand the green line on tach.
