that one is pretty nifty too….. Not sure if that would be very efficient though.  Those batteries are VERY VERY expensive.  30K for that tractor, when you can get a 4×4 diesel one for 13k.

Just like hybrids, they are getting more efficient.  But usually the cost of the battery and the overall price of the vehicle is not actually saving any money.  Especially if batteries ever need replacing.

Nice one Bert. The electric tractor looks to be a responsible tool. I think they will one day replace fossil fueled machines. And they are much kinder to the environment.

Bob, I also believe that the future will be electric vehicles. Tony Seba of Stanford University believes that electric vehicles is the next disruptive technology that will change our future transportation needs. Take a look at this video.

                    Tony Seba Presentation

Trevor, the cost of battery packs have gone down dramatically and I believe that he stated on his video that he’s shooting to build them under 15K. Look at GM there coming out with a Chevrolet Bolt in late 2016 or early 2017 that can travel approximately 200 miles on one charge and at a price range of 35K.

                    Chevrolet Bolt

I’ve been kicking around the idea of an electric for deliveries. I’d want to do the charging at home though as I can put solar on my house ( I’m not about to do that on a leased building ). Besides the business is on Pacific Power, The home on Central Electric Coop, about 20% less. The Bolt I could lease and write off, or maybe a used Nissan Leaf for 10-15,000  What say anyone?

If you’re going to be making deliveries, consider doing it in style with a Tesla model X.

That is a pretty awesome car, good range and lots of power!  And I was very impressed with the warranty!!! lifetime warranty on battery and drive unit?! That’s almost unheard of.  But I’m sure you pay a pretty penny for that car.

Yep, speaking of range anxiety, that thing is out of my price range! 😥

Yes the Tesla’s are very expensive. However, they are building a Model 3 for under 35k with same range as the other models that is scheduled for release in 2017.

Tinbender, you also get government tax credit for buying electric vehicles. Here in Ontario Canada we get a rebate of up to $8,500 on a new electric car depending on the vehicle’s battery size and a rebate of up to $1,000 on a private/home charging station for the vehicle

Tinbender if your looking at putting solar on your house and you don’t want any upfront cost look at this company for  details.

                              Solarcity

Also take a look at these battery packs to store your electricity for use later.

                              Tesla Powerwall

Another factory that will drive the battery cost down is this one.

                              Tesla Gigafactory

Electric transportation and solar is the direction we are going and it won’t be long that it will become more affordable than our present systems.

I’ve looked into Solar City and others. Unfortunately none of the credits apply if you are on a co-op, I guess because there’s nobody at a for profit company getting a kickback. The only reason I mentioned the Nissan Leaf is I was checking out used ones and there was one in the Portland area, a 2015, loaded lease return with 4,000 miles on it for $15,000. But I like the 200 mile range idea, around here I can do that or more in a day without trying very hard.

The turbo-tractor reminds me of my teenage years. That was the time of the muscle cars. Three rearends and five sets of rear tires in less than a year. Tractor tires aren’t cheap! I kind – a – wander if that guy’s next video would be on the tractor catastrophies compilation. When comes to batteries the battery tractor seem ok, but one thing I know for sure is batteries and cold temps don’t co-exist well. When I have been traveling on the interstate the battery/engine cars will pass me and the next thing they slow down and then they take off again for a while and then slow down continuously. I guess it makes me feel like the turtle – slow and steady wins the race.

I remember one spring I think 1972, my older brother built a hot rod pulling tractor that reminds me a little of this beast, it was a 70 Oliver with HVAC plumbing for intake manifold adapting a McCulloch supercharger from a Hudson Superhawk & an AFB mechanical secondary 4V. It sounded great, supercharger was mechanically engaged with an AC clutch at 60′. He made several 120′ pulls but never got through the gate, supercharger was not made for as much boost as he was running & always locked up hot.

He should try it again with a Paxton supercharger.
