$200 for a thumb? That's almost too good to be true.

That is correct David. In old raw water cooled marine engines. There was something magic that happened to salt water and cast iron when it reached 150°F. The cast iron turned black and began to disappear.

Great. Lets see some pics when you get it installed.

I predict you will be using a manual thumb soon.

This is the type valve you want if want to add a hydraulic thumb and you don't have a power beyond port. I used this type valve in my excavator dozer blade circuit. For instance, you could, say, install this valve in your right side stabilizer circuit. Then when you wanted to use the thumb just flip the toggle switch and use the right side stabilizer control valve to operate the thumb. Be sure to install a pressure relief valve in the return line set to about 1,750 psig to avoid damage to the thumb, and possibly shearing pins.

MisterPat,
Without seeing your thermostat, it's impossible to guess. I would take it to NAPA or any good auto supply house and have them physically match it up.

Hate to disagree with “Bob from Nortrac”, apparently he doesn't understand thermal efficiency and the dangers of running an engine cold.
I installed a 180° thermostat in my dozer with the TY395 engine and I could tell the difference in sound and performance. My fuel consumption went down, and my engine oil life improved. I currently have 260+ hours on the oil and it's still perfect according to the analysis.
My background knowledge is from being a licensed diesel engineer for many years.

Kinda sorta. Depends if you're using it in a lot of rocks. Then you have to be pretty careful. Glad you got it.

If it isn't smoking and there are no perceivable loud knocks there is no over fueling (there is no flooding in a diesel engine – no carburetor
).There is no direct mechanical connection between the hand throttle controls and the fuel rack. The fuel rack is operated through the governor flyweights. All the hand throttle does is control the flyweights via the speeder spring. You may have a sticking rack, which is not uncommon, or you may have a weak speeder spring, very uncommon. Since it is a brand new unit, I suspect a sticking rack. What oil are you using in the injection pump?

There is a lock bolt in the idler yoke that must be loosened first. Are you saying the nut on the shaft is frozen? You may have to unbolt the tensioner assembly in order to move it back enough.
