So if I understand correctly, you paid a tractor shop to change out the fuel injection pump assembly.

And they didn’t catch that?? evilyell

That was your problem all along?? yell

I would pay that tractor shop a visit and give them all the word-of-mouth advertising they deserve. They should make it right with you.

Yes. Lift pump is the generic term because it is also the fuel pump that feeds the fuel injection pump. It has a small screen located inside the suction side banjo bolt, which can become plugged too.

Glad to hear that your “full throttle” isn't up against the governor. wink

Then the problem was with the $35.00 lift pump and not the $350.00 fuel injection pump/governor assembly.

It still sounds as though there is an air leak or starvation issues in the primary side of the fuel system. Did the dealer replace any fuel hoses?

You like to run the engine at full throttle all the time? Good luck with that.

More than likely you didn't need your injection pump replaced in the first place. The symptoms you described are indicative of merely collapsed soft fuel lines, plugged strainer in the fuel tank and/or sediment bowl, and a bad case of diesel bugs. What it sounds like now is an air leak on the suction side of the lift pump. Have you cleaned out your fuel tank and treated your fuel with a biocide?

Did you have a diesel bug problem? Did the engine just quit on you?

Just curious why you would be doing this type of work in the field

                (diesel shops have service trucks).

Well, what you have there is the timing advance mechanism. It functions much like the centrifugal advance in a distributor on a '60's automotive engine.

This is why there are diesel shops. Have no idea why you called it a “balancer”.

                  Good luck.

                    Welcome monkeyman,

I agree, pictures of what you have taken apart would be greatly appreciated. When you say “balancer” are you referring to the torsional isolator on the front of the crankshaft? And what are you referring to as the “fuel pump assembly – lift pump or fuel injection pump?

Personally, I have no idea what you're talking about. Pictures please.

The reluctor could be dirty, not getting accurate pulses off the ring gear.

Is the needle touching the glass or back plate?

Also, as usual, check all of the wiring connections.

                      That's kinda wierd.

                      hmmm

                        Welcome mr-tech-ed.

You'll have to excuse me, my mind reading skills and X-ray vision aren't quite what they used to be.

What make and model is your tractor, and what make and model is your backhoe? Which PTO do you plan on using? Is your backhoe set up with a reservoir to support an independent hydraulic system?

                        Provide that info please.
