Listen to the folks at U-Haul. They have been sued so many times for bad hitch-ups they are going to play it safe.

If you are concerned about “suicide”, then think about murder. Consider the other people on the road, please. You may escape an injury, but what about an accident you might have caused? A '99 Ranger is only a 1/4 ton pickup.

I know you will do what you will, but I'm saying don't do it.

That sort of confirms my suspicions. What I was beginning to realize is that the additional thickness of the lining material would make it extremely difficult, if even possible, to pull past the threaded bosses used for the adjusting bolts.

The other issue, which is obviously a concern to the Chinese, is the securing of the eye ends to the brake band by riveting AND welding. WTF? Either they don't trust their rivets or they don't trust their welds. The eye ends on almost all other steering brake bands are forged steel and use shoulder bolts instead of rivets and welding, which I was going to explore using 1/4″ x 5/8″ fillister head shoulder screws.

My apologies for being truant with responding to emails and videos as I am behind on other priority projects due to a change in work schedules (the job that pays the bills). Everything should be back to a normal flow in a couple more weeks.

It’s not necessary to shout, or is your caps key stuck?

          Thank you laugh

And yes, WD-40 is a bad choice – for several reasons. It is a wet film lubricant/penetrant, and for that reason alone it attracts dust and dirt like a magnet, holds it in suspension, and turns into a nice abrasive gel. Mud. Albeit this is on a relatively small scale. Another reason is that any wet film lubricant will increase in viscosity exponentially as the ambient temperature plummets, which is exactly what you DON'T want. The best lubrication for solenoid operators (slugs) is graphite. Not affected by temperature, always “slippery”, and doesn't attract dust and dirt. The handiest method used to apply it is using Lock-Eez or equivalent.

Are you sure you need a complete new starter? I would take it to an auto-electric shop first for a check. Maybe the problem you're having is with the solenoid.

New starters and related parts are here and here.

              Hi Mick, welcome. laugh

It sounds like splines on the input shaft are giving way, but I have to ask what oil are you using in the clutch?

Also; What year is it, does it have an accumulator in the clutch hydraulic circuit, when was the last time the oil was changed in the clutch and the suction screen cleaned?

                  Toby,

My apologies, no offense was meant, but full use of caps, as you know, is considered shouting, offensive, and aggressive behaviour by Internet protocol and etiquette standards.

I spend over $4,000.00 of taxpayer money annually on just air filters alone to keep a $4m diesel-electric propulsion system humming along, so yes, I know cost-conscious very well but balance that with quality and efficiency. I also manage an associated 720 computer network.

Well, there's the second attempt at uploading a video link.

This should just not be happening.

I copied the code to clipboard and pasted it just like the preceeding video clips. It also worked on the FB page without going back to re-copy it, no problems. I find it very curious too that in the process of trying to upload a video link, an image was removed from my prevoius post. There were three. The FB page is here, and seems to be just fine.
