My Foton 404 oil pressure is 65 psi cold, but drops to 15 psi at idle when warmed up. If I kick the throttle up just a hair it will run at 30 psi. The valve next to the oil filter is set wide open.

i would not worry about those readings, I have a foton ft 504a and it is pretty much the same way. you could look at the tach and if it is idleing a little low turn up the idle speed a touch. Look in the operators manual I think the suggested idle rpm is listed( it is around 750 I think). I believe that 15/40 weight oil is the suggested one to use in it, might want to change to that if using something else.

I use 15w40 rotella oil. About 6 months ago the idiot light started coming on at idle so I installed a manual guage so I could see what was going on. I know if I have pressure I have lubrication but I don’t believe it used to be this way. My old Ford carries 45 psi warm or cold. I might step the idle up. The tach hasn’t worked for a while. I used to pull the dash periodically and clean the contacts to keep it working, but haven’t for a while. I set the throttle by sound.

you say that the oil pressure relief is wide open , do you mean unrestricted ? I would think that the screw should be turned in some at least to put the spring under some tension. If you need me to I can turn mine in and count the rotations and give you a ballpark of where mine sits.

oh I had a issue with my tach and it was the pickup on the bellhousing. if you want to see if your is dirty on the end look at it and screw by hand tenderly it till it contacts the flywheel and back out 1 -1/2 turns.

I think the oil valve still has tension on the spring, but sure I’ll take the turn count. I have reset the flywheel sensor. I was losing contact on the plugs under the dash. I’m going to be out of town the next few days.

well the oil pressure adjustment screw bottomed out at 2-1/2 turns , on a hot idle mine runs about 22 psi at 750 rpm as best as I can tell.

When I head back out there I’ll check it. Sounds like I’m probably ok. I just got concerned when the idiot light started coming on. That’s why I put the manual guage on so I could see what it was doing. Your probably right, I’ll bump the idle up just a hair. I don’t get any chatter like when I first start it up cold so it’s oiling.

heah, if the light came on I would have done the same thing by adding a manual gauge. cause a idiot light can not tell you much.
