Well OK, not really, but it took a little head scratching to figure out how I was going to put this container where I wanted it. I was impressed the driver got down my driveway with a 50′ trailer and semi off our skinny street at all, and he got it real close to where I wanted it. While his trailer was tilted I set three sets of landscape timbers under it, but it turned out only three sink into the gravel in no time. The first move it slid around eight feet before the LF corner high-sided on a boulder barley sticking out of the ground. A trip to Harbor Freight and a stubby 20 ton jack later and more landscape timbers underneath and it moved like butter. Now all that’s left is lifting it one more time to remove the timbers and level it, a little tree trimming, and a paint job. :yahoo:

I’ve got engines, welders, compressors and assorted crapola plugging up my shop space, besides I needed a 40′ fence 8+ feet tall. We have a new neighbor somewhere up on the Rimrock. There are 56 houses in a 1 mile circle with short streets coming off like spokes on a wheel. Minimum lot size is 3 acres. This person (and I use the term loosely) has walked or driven every inch of the neighborhood and peered into everyone’s yard.

” If I look through the trees just right I can see this guy has 4 cars, I don’t like cars! I’m going to complain to the county!”

I’m the FOURTH person this POS has filed a complaint against. The fellow from the county tells me, ” As long as the cars can’t be seen from the street we have no issues with what you do on your own property, but if they can be seen from the street they have to be running, registered and insured”. Personally if I had the money I would fight that last one in court, as registration is a road tax.

If I want to put up a fence 7′ or taller I need permits, I need to drill into rock in places, and it gets expensive real fast. These containers don’t require any permits, are cheaper than a fence, and give me storage to boot. And the county guy thought it was a great idea. :good:

I’ve lived in this house for 30 years and had never had a problem one with any of my neighbors, until now. The county guy says he can’t tell me who complained until he signs me off, but that whoever it is does not even live near me!  I’m painting this thing a light desert sand color to blend in, as I don’t wish to punish my immediate neighbors that I get along with just fine, and am welding hinges for a driveway gate onto the corner so that will be blocked from view as well.

And doing all this while going in and out of the hospital with bi-lateral kidney stones that completely blocked off both my kidneys, almost killing me. Then there’s that whole heart failure thing… Aren’t new neighbors wonderful? :negative:

Wow Eric, you don’t need POS neighbors like that! But I think the shipping container was a smart move, sort of a win-win situation.

yeah it is like people buying next to a airport and then claiming that it should be closed, just because they did not do their homework and check out the area. I hate city people who move to the country. It usually does not take long they do not like the noise or smells and move off. so increasing noise and odors will get them gone sooner. hog lot anyone?

Yup, Saw the photo attachments.  Your Jinma is the same exact model I too purchased around the same time you did.  And from the same place.  You have a mighty TALL LIST to check off that’s for sure.  Looking forward to you re-torque posting.  As I’m just a little overdue to do the same.  Truly hope CITY BOY neighbor starts to appreciate THE COUNTRY LIFE”  and leave “things” alone.

If they didn’t like your 4 cars I’ll bet they absolutely love the storage container. I think the hog lot idea is great.

It has been getting a lot of looks, stands out like a red d**k on a dog   Not for long though, I’ve leveled it and spent most of the weekend prepping it for paint. Soon I suspect folks will drive by and think I got rid of it, until they notice it really is still there.

I wonder how long it will be before someone thinks it is a train car and tags it with a gang sign.

Oh good lord no! That’s all we need are a bunch of fake gang bangers. I grew up in the Bay area where there’s lots of real ones. When I see kids walking around with their pants falling off in this lily white town I laugh so hard it hurts. We have a pretty large Hispanic population here too but they’re all too busy working and being good citizens to gang bang. Unfortunately the secrets out and we’re one of the top spots in the US to move to, so even little 80 year old 800 SF mill house bungalows are going for $400,000.00, about five times what they were just a few years ago. Pay isn’t even half what it is in metro areas so who knows who these yuppies are moving in.
